Spotlight: NCVLI Staff Profile: Nick Krebs
Nick Krebs
Program Coordinator
Nick Krebs joined NCVLI in 2015 as a Program Coordinator.
As an organization, what is NCVLI’s greatest strength?
Our efforts to partner with folks nationwide to advance strategic litigation that strengthen’s crime victims rights. It’s our least funded effort, but NCVLI mobilizes scarce resources to deliver frequent wins for victims that endure beyond the circumstances of the particular case.
If you had a chance to talk to the U.S. Supreme Court, the President, Congress, or your state’s governor & legislature, what one thing would you tell them about victims’ rights?
That anyone can become a victim and all deserve protection and respect, regardless of past deeds.
What would you most like NCVLI or the victims’ rights movement to accomplish in the next five years? Twenty years?
Increased victim compensation funds provide by state and federal governments that provide for victims in areas other than direct economic losses as a result of injury or job loss.
If you could change one thing about the current victims’ rights environment, be it legal, political, public recognition, victim social/psychological services, etc., what would it be?
Increased advocacy for those who experience violence or rape while in state custody and repeal of legislation that grants immunity to those who victimize.
Who or what inspires you?
Ricky Best, Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche and David-Cole Fletcher for standing up to protect victims of hate despite the personal consequences. In a world where authorities can’t solve or prevent many of the dangers we face, we have to take care of each other and I’m inspired to live in the same community as these heroes.
