eSANE: Victims’ Rights 101 for Medical Personnel

Crime victims’ rights laws exist in every jurisdiction, including South Dakota. These rights are meant to empower survivors and support their agency. Too often, however, rights are not afforded; instead, survivor voices and choices are co-opted. This session will provide an overview of victims’ rights, why they matter to survivors, and how advocates, medical personnel, law enforcement, attorneys and other allied professionals can help protect those rights.

Objectives: Overview of victims’ rights and why they matter to survivors and understand how advocates, medical personnel, law enforcement, attorneys and other allied professionals can help protect those rights.

Trainers: Amy Liu and Rebecca Khalil, National Crime Victim Law Institute
