The pre-conference institute will take place Thursday, June 16.

You have heard of victims’ rights and know your jurisdiction has laws that afford rights but are unsure how to use these laws to advocate on behalf of victim-clients in a criminal case.  Victims’ rights jurisprudence is still relatively new and it can seem daunting to enter a criminal case as a “third party”.  This Pre-Conference Institute is designed to provide attorneys with little or no experience representing crime victims in criminal cases with the foundation for an effective victims’ rights practice so that you can use your lawyering skills on behalf of crime victims. NCVLI will submit an application to the Oregon State Bar for approval of 2.25 CLE credits (2.0 general and 0.25 ethics, pending approval). This day will be taught by the legal team of the National Crime Victim Law Institute, who have nearly 100 years of combined victims’ rights expertise.  Over the course of the three sessions described below you will learn the foundations of victims’ rights representation and you will leave this day better prepared to represent victims!

The Pre-conference institute will include these sessions:

Pre-Conference Institute: Getting Started and Staying in the Game: Victim Standing and Ethics of Representation

Pre-Conference Institute: Victims’ Rights Litigation 101: The Right to Privacy

Pre-Conference Institute: Victims’ Voice Before Final Disposition: Being Heard on Pleas

Stay tuned for Speaker Bios!

The recording of all Conference sessions will be available post-conference for 90 days (subjects to change), and NCVLI will submit an application to the Oregon State Bar for approval of CLE credit for all sessions.  The application will seek approval of 7 CLE credits (3.5 general, 3.25 access to justice, and 0.25 ethics, pending approval) for attendees of the live sessions. Those who also watch the recorded sessions post-Conference have the potential to earn up to an additional 10.25 general CLE credits.

Additional CLE credit may be available for pre-conference institute
