Court Participation in a CCR

About this event

Court Participation in a CCR

Involvement of courts (inclusive of judges and other court personnel) in Coordinated Community Response (CCR) teams can strengthen a community’s response to crimes of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking by, among other things, encouraging participation by others, facilitating collaboration among members with differing priorities, and sending a message to the community about the importance of holistically addressing these crimes. This involvement can also pose challenges as judges and other court personnel may worry about the perception of bias, scheduling can be challenging, and power differentials may impede conversation at times. In this one-hour, interactive meeting, judges and court staff will describe in more detail how court participation in CCRs can assist a community’s collaborative efforts to improve victim safety and agency and offender accountability and how to engage and retain court involvement in these efforts. Small-group discussions will provide the opportunity for participants to evaluate their current efforts to include courts in their CCR and to discuss how to navigate specific challenges that are or are perceived to be associated with including courts in a CCR.
